This article should take 3 minutes to read.

We have been seeing airlines shrinking their fleet sizes during the Coronavirus situation from Delta retiring their 777s to Qantas retiring their 747s and storing their A380s but still have the largest fleet after the whole crisis. These only reflect the current time and who knows these numbers may still drop by the end of the year, so please keep that in mind. So here are some of the most significant fleets in 2020 according to planespotters.net. They do also exclude aircraft from regional carriers and only focuses on their mainline fleet.

Without a doubt American Airlines still has the largest fleet in the world with 872 aircraft with the following numbers in these various aircraft types and an average age of 10.8 years:

Delta Airlines follows closely behind with 844 aircraft at an average age of 14.5 years. They also have a fleet that is a bit more diverse than others since they have 757, 767, 717, A350 and A220 which are not shown in other airlines' fleets. Their fleet numbers are as follows:

Up next is, you guessed it, United Airlines! They are also in the 800 range with them having a total of 810 aircraft in their fleet with an average age of 15.9 years. Do keep in mind though that they still have 76 orders yet to be fulfilled. They have some of the largest amount of aircraft when compared to other US airlines:

Southwest Airlines is everyone's favourite low-cost carrier, I assume. Now it is pretty easy to view the fleet of this airline since they operate an all 737 fleet, except the ground MAX aircraft that you should check out in our article here at an average age of 12.3 years and a total of 737.
