Emirates is now stopping passengers from booking flights to New Zealand after the NZ government has made a directive to limit the number of passengers entering the country amid the swamped quarantine facilities. The suspension should be only for three weeks at this stage. New Zealand citizens who have returned from Australia are now occupying a majority of the facilities, and if they keep coming at the rate they’re 92 people will be left without a place to stay.
Of course, Emirates is not the only airline that has been affected by this. Air New Zealand has also stopped bookings and is now working with the government to manage capacity of arrivals and passengers on board their flights. Meanwhile, Emirates is still opening services to new countries after not flying for some time. They have so far been flying to these new cities Cairo, Male, Tunis, and Glasgow. They are flying to 52 cities, but after dropping Adelaide and Auckland from their list, this drops them down to 50 now compared to the 161 destinations they served pre-pandemic.
